Education and Prevention

Education and Prevention

Every positive student experience is rooted in a safe and healthy learning environment. At Birmingham-Southern College, we promote this environment by educating our students on an on-going basis to prepare them to recognize and respond to sexual assault and harassment, foster healthy relationship behaviors, and understand what resources are available.

Student Education and Prevention Training
365英国上市官网 requires all incoming students to participate in an online training regarding healthy relationships, consent, sexual assault, bystander intervention, and survivor support. This mandatory online course occurs in two phases and phase 1 must be completed prior to each incoming student's arrival on the Hilltop. Each student will also be required to complete phase 2 after being on campus for several weeks. Students will receive instructions via email during the summer prior to their arrival in the fall.

Additionally, all incoming students are required to complete an interactive online educational course regarding alcohol use in college. This course is designed to educate students on the mental and physical effects of alcohol, prepare students to engage in bystander intervention, and use an evidence-based approach to encourage students to make healthier decisions related to alcohol. This mandatory online course also occurs in two phases, and phase 1 must be completed prior to each incoming student's arrival on the Hilltop. Each student will also be required to complete phase 2 after being on campus for several weeks. Students will receive instructions via email during the summer prior to their arrival in the fall.

During Fall Orientation, all incoming students will also hear further information about our Sexual Misconduct Policy and how to take care of themselves and others regarding these types of issues

Additional programs and trainings are offered to students throughout the year to increase awareness and promote prevention, often in partnership with student organizations dedicated to supporting students and removing these issues from our campus culture.

Faculty and Staff Education and Prevention Training
Birmingham-Southern Faculty and Staff are encouraged to report information they receive from students and colleagues to ensure the College responds with appropriate supportive measures and other relevant actions. Counseling Services, Health Services, and the College Chaplain are not expected to report any information they receive, but rather are expected to keep it confidential.

All faculty and staff are required to complete a Workplace Harassment online training program upon joining the 365英国上市官网 community.  Additional trainings and workshops are provided regularly for faculty and staff regarding various topics related to our Sexual Misconduct Policy and related Title IX matters.
